The Lighthouse of Alexandria
Of the coast of Egypt lied a lighthouse named Lighthouse of Alexandria. It was massive it was about four hundred feet tall, and three hundred feet out at sea. Alexandria was so well known there was four teen cities named for her, this was near the lighthouse. Alexandria was an important Egyptian pharaoh.
The great pharaoh of Egypt Alexandria was who the lighthouse was named after. But soon after the Lighthouse of Alexandria was finished she died. This lighthouse was not only made to honor her but to guide trade ships into the busy harbor. The Lighthouse of Alexandria was also called pharaoh or the Pharaoh of Alexandria. The lighthouse was built in three parts the base, middle, and the light chamber; each with its own shape and purpose. The base was square and was used for trade of market goods. It was about one hundred feet tall by itself and extended out to sea. The middle area was a long figure and had eight sides. This was used so that people, tourist, and housekeepers could get to the light chamber. They made their way up many steps to the light chamber which was columns with a triangular roof. This was where the fire was contained with mirrors surrounding it to reflect the light off to guide the ships. The lighthouse was Greek design and was about four hundred feet in the air. This height made it the tallest of the seven ancient wonders.
After many years of standing tall, it was the victim of an earthquake. It was the victim of others earthquakes besides this one, but this one seemed to make it collapse. The Lighthouse of Alexandria was one of the tallest buildings in Egypt and a world wonder was gone forever. Some scientists believe under the ashes of the lighthouse lies the pharaohs of Alexandria’s bodies, but that we will never know.
The massive wonder stood high and proud on a small island for a long time until it fell. The Lighthouse of Alexandria will always remind the Egyptians of pharaoh Alexandria.
